10th Symposium of the International Society of Root Research (ISRR10)

Israel, 8-12 July, 2018.

The Symposium will promote fundamental understanding of the diverse aspects of root biology. The symposium, titled: “Exposing the Hidden Half - Root Research at the Forefront of Science”, will assemble multiple disciplines in order to facilitate exploration of novel approaches and investigation of complex processes and mechanisms. The intersections of root physiology, root development, root architecture and root interactions with the environment will be tackled by researchers from around the globe through talks, poster sessions and discussions. Basic research at multiple scales (proteins, cells, tissues and the root system as a whole) and cutting-edge methodologies will be highlighted as important means to advance agriculture. Graduate students, young researchers and senior scientists will find the conference setting in the scenic Jerusalem hills conducive for both formal and informal interactions promoting a rich exchange of ideas and knowledge and opportunity for fostering collaborations.

15 - 18 April, 2018 - Venezia, Italy

Since 1960's biotechnology has become increasingly relevant to the fast growing industries. While microbes have been used for centuries in food and drinks industry, their continued and further investigation has advanced opportunities for their exploitation in almost all industrial sectors. Some businesses have already benefited from advances in applied biotechnology, others have begun to gain tangible profits.

IBIC 2018 offers a platform for presentation of new ideas and discussion of latest advances in applied biotechnology supported by sound science leading to novel industrial developments.

In this context, IBIC 2018 covers topical issues in bio-production, bio-separation, and bio-detection. Latest research topics including nano-biotechnology, biorefinery and biofuels, biocatalysis, biomaterials, and microbial fuel cells will be presented. Microbes will be discussed as cell factories, and fermenters will be investigated as integrated systems in recovery operations.

18th European Meeting on Environmental Chemistry (EMEC)

The Department of Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP) is pleased to be hosting the 18th European Meeting on Environmental Chemistry (EMEC), which will be held in Porto (Portugal) from 26 to 29 November 2017.
The EMEC is organised annually on behalf of the Association of Chemistry and the Environment (ACE). It traditionally comprises a broad range of topics within the field of environmental chemistry, and interdisciplinary presentations are very welcome. The EMEC meeting always attracts high quality science presentations and keynote talks from internationally renowned researchers working in environmental chemistry and related fields.
Under the motto "Chemistry towards an Infinite Environment", the 18th edition (EMEC18) will continue the tradition of previous meetings, hoping to contribute for a lasting sustainability of our planet’s environment. It will provide a wide forum for the exchange of ideas on recent advances in research and development in environmental chemistry and technology, for people from academia, research and industry.

We are looking forward to meeting you at EMEC18 conference and hope this will be a fruitful and pleasant scientific event.

Contributions are invited in the following areas:

  • Environmental monitoring
    • Analytical methods for environmental science
    • Water, air, soil and biota
  • Environmental technologies
    • Conventional and advanced treatment processes
    • Waste management and recycling
  • Environmental modelling
  • Sustainable development
    • Exposure and risk assessment

Wageningen Soil Conference 2017. Soil Science in a Changing World
August 27 - 31, 2017

Wageningen University & Research invites you to participate in the third edition of the Wageningen Soil Conference, to discuss novel insights in (applied) soil science, to identify further actions for soil-based solutions that help achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, to initiate programs that aim at a lasting increase in soil organic carbon, and to develop narratives on soil-based solutions that are convincing to policy makers and other stakeholders.

Degradation and Revitalisation of Soil and Landscape (Soil Science Days 2017),

10th - 13th September 2017 in the Science Fortress of the Natural Science Faculty,

Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic.

Thematic focus:

In recent decades the threat to soil has become a serious problem worldwide, and many international efforts draw attention to the importance of awareness of this threat and adequate prevention. The year 2015 can be remembered as International Year of Soils, which was then extended until 2024 as International Decade of Soils. These, and other activities lead to a spread of information on soils, their importance, both productive and non-productive, and the fact that the state of our soils is not good, and a remedial solution must be found. This is the aim of the conference being prepared in cooperation with the soil science societies of V4 countries and government ministries, in order to identify the problems and, especially to seek measures to improve the situation. The conference is not intended exclusively for specialists from Central European countries. We look forward to wider international participation by colleagues from academic circles, governing bodies, and practitioners, with the aim of sharing the latest scientific and practical knowledge leading towards protection and improvement of the condition of the irreplaceable natural wealth that soil represents.

In this vein, the scientific committee has divided the programme into three blocks, from the description of individual degradation influences and methods to evaluate them, to the proposal and effectiveness of corrective measures. After the conference abstract proceedings will be issued, covering both the presentation and poster sections. During the conference members of the scientific committee will also select several innovative scientific contributions and make recommendations to their authors for inclusion in the magazines Soil and Water Research, Agriculture, Agrokémia és Talajtan and Soil Science Annual. The conference will include excursions, one of which will focus on the issues of agricultural soils, while the other will deal with forest soils. Anyone interested in gaining an understanding of the issues in-situ is also invited to take part in two pre-conference tours, which are being prepared in Hungary and Poland by local branches of national soil societies.
